The Knitting Maevan
Finished Objects
Fetching
Pattern: Fetching from Knitty
Cast On: Beginning of December 2006
Finished: January 20th, 2007
Yarn: Knitpicks Andean Silk in Pitch
Other Notes: I did the thumb my way. I found the directions a little confusing so I just went with what felt right. This was a lovely little knit! A pleasure really! I would totally knit these again. However, if knit again, and to all those curious, I would recommend making them longer. They just barely cover the first knuckles. For warmth, definately need to be about an inch longer on the fingers and about half an inch on the thumbs. I also wont use the picot edge again. I don't really dig it so much.

Auna's Schmee Hat and Booties
Pattern: Baby Booties from The Knitter's Bible by Claire Crompton and The Umbilical Hat from SnB
Cast On: November 4th 2005 (Booties), Nov 5th (hat)
Finished: Nov 5th (Booties), November 6th 2005 (hat)
Yarn: Patons Canadiana in Beige for the booties and High Plains Varg. for the hat.
Other Notes: Colours were inspired by Auna's parents, Jamie and Devin. Autumn means alot to them, as they are planning a fall wedding, and it signifies a time of bounty. I also didn't see them being overly fond of bright pink everything for their little girl. Renamed the hat to the "Schmee" hat, in honour of how the hat transformed my kitty into a pirate.

Regency Cabled Shrug
Pattern: Free from Interweave,
Staff Shrugs
Cast On: July 15th 2005
Finished: October 28th 2005
Yarn: Patons Decor in Chocolate Taupe
Other Notes: No modifications at all. I screwed up my grafting attempt, but am happy at the wierd lace it created in its wake. This is a one-size-fits-all pattern, but I disagree. I find it very small, and would have increased it everywhere if I could. It's very comfortable and very warm. I'm pretty happy with it. I may add a button instead of the brooch though, as I think that may keep it in place better. This is my first completed cabled project, and I love it. The yarn was a pain, as it had MANY flaws, was terribly tangled in the center and is
already pilling. I think I'd like to make this in some knitpicks Andean Silk one day :)

Rebecca Lace Cardi

a.k.a Beckie Cardi
Pattern: Rebecca 29
Cast On: April 7th 2005
Finished: October 11th 2005
Yarn: Lanas Stop, Stop Mohair in colour 260, lot 06716.
Other Notes: I used two one inch ribbons on either side for ties. I made the open hole on the left side, as opposed to the right, as I prefered the front of the other panel. Also, I am not going to do any of the edge finishing. This was a very difficult project for me, as it was my first real sweater and only my second lace attempt ever. I was off gauge, which resulted in a smaller cardigan. In retrospect, I wish I had lengthened it. Overall, I'm quite happy with this. The colours are fantastic and it's super comfortable.

The Cheshire Cat Hat

A gift for my sister, Tracy. She has a love of all things Cheshire Cat related, and so to congratulate her on her recent move to Calgary I threw this together :).
Pattern: Kittyville Hat
Cast On: Beginning of August 2005
Finished: August 11th 2005 (took me about 2 weekends)
Yarn: Bernat Satin in Maitai and Flamingo
Other Notes: I added another 8 stitches as all of my hats have so far turned out far too small, thanks to my super tight tension.

One Skein Wonder
Pattern: One Skein Wonder by
Stephanie Japel
Cast On: End of March, 2005
Finished: April 2nd, 2005
Yarn: Recycled Sari Silk yarn
Other Notes: The project was a real downer for me. It ended up being way to small, after many many gauge issues which I thought I had resolved. The yarn was gorgeous, though difficult to work with, and it was picked to match my favourite dress. I have
yet to work up the energy and strength to frog it and start over. It'll happen though. One day.

Leelee's Sari Silk Strength Scarf

A gift for my dear friend, Leigh. She was going through a rough time, and so, for Christmas, I put together a large package for her to cheer her up. Part of that package was this scarf. The idea behind it was of the strength and beauty of women. If you think about it, the yarn itself is made of recycled sari silk. Lord knows how many women wore the fabrics that made up the scarf. Then the yarn is created by a woman's co-op in India. So, women's hands spun the yarn, to feed their families and themselves. The scarf is then sold in a yarn store owned and operated by women. I buy the yarn, and make it for her.
Pattern: Drop stitch scarf from SnB Nation
Cast On: End of March, 2005
Finished: April 2nd, 2005
Yarn: Recycled Sari Silk yarn
Other Notes: This scarf was made before Lis and I had our ball-winder. It took us about a week and a bit to unravel the mess that was my cat-destroyed-skein.

My Mammoth Mittens
Pattern:the
Rowan Plaid Bulky Mitten pattern
Cast On: February 3rd 2005
Finished: February 5th 2005
Yarn:Bernat Solo in Checkers
Other Notes:My first pair of mittens! I had decided to make myself a very basic pair of mitens after losing not one, not two, but three pairs of mittens this winter. I wanted them to match my new red and black plaid coat. While I came close, they ended up a little too cherry red. Oh well. They still look ok. Took me a weekend to start and finish. Despite starting out too small, they have grown (overnight it seems) to be too big for my little hands. I'm ok with that. They have that home-made look to them that I'm used to with my knits. Wee newbie :)

Kim's Soft-as-Sin Scarf
Pattern:My own.
Here are the basic instructions.
Cast On: N/A
Finished:February 1st 2005
Yarn:Patons Allure, namely Mink, Ruby, Emerald and Sapphire.
Other Notes: A commission for my older sister, Kim. She had requested a big, long, fuzzy, soft, colourful scarf with fringe. Originally intended as a Christmas gift for a friend, I realized that I was making exactly what my sister had wanted. The scarf is of my own creation, a simple checker-board pattern using four colours. I ran out of yarn prematurely, resulting in a much smaller scarf than intended.

Tracy's Mary-Jane Mohair Slippers
Pattern:this pattern from
Craftster
Cast On:N/A
Finished:End of January 2005
Yarn:Sirdar Mohair
Other Notes:
A Christmas present for my little sister, Tracy. I saw the pattern on craftster and couldn't help but make them for her. Made out of mohair in very bright purple and pink, one strand of each held together. Obviously too big for me, I hope they fit her ok (she's roughly two sizes larger than me). First FOS of 2005 :) Note: My camera, for some odd reason, is adding a blueish tint to these shots.

Christmas Hat for Pat
Pattern:Hot Head pattern in Stitch 'N Bitch
Cast On:End of December 2004
Finished:End of December 2004
Yarn:Red Heart Cozy Wool in Oxford Grey
Other Notes:My second hat, went much quicker than the first (finished in two days). Altered pattern slightly to make it larger to fit Pat.
Christmas Hat for Mum
Pattern: Based on
silk garden beanie
Cast On:Mid December 2004
Finished:Late December 2004
Yarn:Made of Caron Jewel Box in Amethyst
Other Notes:My first hat, and my first knitted gift. Due to yarn, I made it much bigger than the pattern. Sadly, despite this, it was still too small. Jewel Box is extremely hard to work with. It has absolutely no give and it a literal pain for your hands.
My First Scarf
Pattern:Ribbed For Her Pleasure scarf, taken from Stitch N' Bitch.
Cast On:October 2004
Finished:October 2004
Yarn:Red Heart Casual Cot'n in Parsley, 2 skeins.
Other Notes:My first finished project! How exciting! :D Done in 2x2 Ribbing. I modified it by making it much much thinner, casting on only 28 stitches. I also made it as long as I am tall (actually, a bit longer. Probably somewhere near 5'6" where as I am a measly 5'3"). Bwa.
