The Knitting Maevan
Finished Objects
Skulls and Roses
Pattern: Embroidery pattern from the
Stitch-It Kit by Jenny Hart.

Notes: My first attempt at embroidery. I love it! I used the split stitch the whole way through. Going to be a gift for a friend for Christmas.

Persephone Costume
Pattern: McCall's
M4954 (the blue costume, bottom right)
Start Date: October 25th 2005
Finished: October 28th 2005
Commissioned for: Katrina
Fabric: A shiny satin-like material for the dress, in black. Black crepe for the wrap with a gold and black paisley trim.
Modifications: I made the wrap smaller and used less trim for it than stated in the pattern. As for the dress, I used only four loop sets at the back, and excluded the godet.

Jean Skirt
Pattern: Instructions found
here.
Date: May 1st, 2006
Notes: Using the instructions above, I took an old pair of jeans and reworked them into a cute jean skirt for the summer. A little snug, due to the jeans having been from highschool ;)

Wood and Red Necklace
Pattern: None
Date: Late April, 2006
Notes: I used a set of wooden beads, some smaller red beads, and then a set of painted wooden beads for this short necklace. Two strands with a very basic pattern.

Circle Skirt
Pattern: Butterick's
B4025 (Second from the left, shorter grey skirt)
Start Date: February 14th 2006
Finished: February 16th 2006
Commissioned for: Not a commission. It was for myself, and it was done for the "
Sew I Knit" sew-along.
Fabric: Green and yellow tweed. Looks greyish in some light.
Modifications/Notes: I picked up the wrong size. Typical newbie mistake, I picked up a size 10, expecting it to fit without checking the measurements. Now, about 20lbs heavier than when I finished it, it sits fine at my natural waist line. I want to cut and finish it to fit properly. That said, I have had nothing but compliments on it. I even have a few requests for commissions. We'll see ;)

Lady Amalthea Costume
Pattern: Butterick B4377
Start Date: October 23rd 2005
Finished: October 26th 2005
Reference Pictures: One (Amaltea and Lir),
Two (Amalthea transforming),
Three (Amalthea and Lir),
Four (Amalthea and tapestry),
Five (Amalthea and Molly Grue),
Six (Amalthea in Schmendrik's coat),
Seven (concept sketch of Amalthea for the new liveaction movie)
Modifications: I didn't make the cloak, as I already have one. Also, the pattern was difficult to follow in places, and full of errors, and so I kind of had to throw in some of my own ideas. I wish it looked as though it were all one piece, but oh well.
Since I was a little girl, I've grown up watching The Last Unicorn movie. I've actually broken my brother's copy of the movie through watching it too frequently. I own the soundtrack, I have read the book several times (the book, The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle is fantastic. You should check it out). I've finally decided to go all out for a Halloween costume again (it's been a long time). So, I purchased the wig online through ebay. I was hoping for a white wig, but was forced to settle for blonde. Luckily, this wig is perfect and beautiful. I then made my dress. Sadly, it's not as true to the movie as I would have liked, but overall, I'm fairly pleased with the results.

Lotus Needle Case

A needlecase for myself, my own design. Not my best work, at all. Made some stupid mistakes, but I still love it. The fabric is lovely and so very me. Perfect for my purposes. August 03 2005
Stitch Markers and Card for SP5

Knitting stitch markers made simply from beads and eye pins. Simply slide the bead on, wrap the eye pin around a pen to get an approx. needle sized circle, wrap remaining wire around itself near the bead. These are gifts for my secret pal in SP5. I packaged them up in a card I made (shown
here and
here). July 2005
Poesie Bag

I bought myself a blank canvas bag from Michael's and used an iron on transfer to decorate. The picture is "Poesie" by Muncha, one of my favourite artists. Underneith the image, I also transfered on a quotation: "Painting is silent poetry, and poetry is painting with the gift of speech" by Simonides. January 2005
Delirium Bag for Leigh

A gift for my dear friend Leigh. She has a love for the Endless character Delirium from the Sandman comics by Neil Gaimen. I've always associated this character with her, so I decided to make her a bag. I used an iron-on transfer of a lovely painting of Delirium. Afterwards, I hand-sewed sequins, beads and other shiny things as decoration. January 2005
