The Knitting Maevan: A page of craftiness

The Knitting Maevan

Monday, January 17, 2005

I imagine you guys have been wondering what happened to my blog over the past week. Much like the Great Livejournal Outage of 2005, The Knitting Maevan (hereby refered to as KM) was down and out for a while. The main difference between these two catastrophic events (yah right :P) is that I have no idea why my blog wouldn't work. I probably screwed up somewhere, but I can't figure it out. Blogger has been very little help, as they have yet to get back to me. No one I've talked to seems to see the problem. Feel free to try to attempt the challenge yourself: here's the code. If you fix it, not only will I adore you always, but I'll even make something for you. Keep in mind, if you request a sweater or something as crazy, it may take years. I'm a slow knitter. Art, craft, knitting, hugs, whatever. I'll do my best. I just want my baby back. Here's what it looked like, in case you forgot. In the meantime, I'm going to try to update myself, without the help of blogger. *whimper*

So, now that I'm back, there is so much to say! I don't even know where to start! Hmm....ok, how about with page updates? Good. Ok, well, as you can tell, I changed the layout. I find this one much easier to navigate. It doesn't seem as polished as I wanted, but oh well. It works. I've updated all the old sections and condensed them down. All new WIPs and FOs have been added, as you can see on your left. Meanwhile, I've also added a new 'about me' section on the main page (for those who have been watching my site for a while, it's the Maevan section). I like how it turned out. Thoughts? I also added some new folks to my links. Enjoy!

In general "Heather's Life" updates, there is much to say. Lis and I are apartment hunting. We have two appointments this week that I'm really excited about. I'm also job hunting, which will hopefully be successful asap. My one-shift-a-week at the security company just isn't enough. In other news, I'm having a ridiculous time with my love life (though no one really wants to hear about that, do they? ^_-). Also, our newest kitty is sick. We have to take her to the vet this week. She has human cold symptoms. She's all congested, has a cough and sneezes non-stop. Today, her eyes were weepy. I'm worried about her. My sister's best friend (one of my dear friends as well) moved away to Calgary this past weekend as well. We all got together on Thursday at our favourite cafe. I think I'll be posting pictures on my journal here. Some not-so-great news, I had to drop Japanese. My marks were crazy low due to some miscommunication between me and my prof. Instead, I'm now taking "Death and the Afterlife" with one of my favourite profs :) I'm pleased. Should bring my marks up too. I love religion classes, it'll be nice to take one again.

I made my first order to BPAL. I'm really excited to recieve it. I ended up ordering Sin, Bastet , and O in 5ml and then one set of Imps: Belle Epoque, Coyote, Blood Amber, Ophelia, Snake Oil and a surprise for a friend ;). In other shopping news, I hope to be picking up the new Tori album, "The Beekeeper" and her new book "Piece by Piece" this February. I don't think I'm going to be able to afford them though :( Sigh. I suppose I can always wait. I love her latest single, find it here.

Enough, enough! Back to knitting ^_-. Well, as mentioned in my WIPs page, I'm now working on a scarf, hat and mitt set for myself. I received a really cool red and plaid peacoat from my mum for Christmas, which, while being gorgeous, didn't match any of my old scarfs or hat (yes, sadly, I only have one hat). I can't wait to finish them. I was going to wait, but I found the perfect yarn while shopping on Thursday. Actually, one of my best friends, Isaac, found it for me. Who says boys don't have a good eye for yarn? :P I'm thinking about making Muffy with the left over Bernat chunky. I think it would be cute. I also bought some Lamb's Pride on Ebay which should be arriving soon for my Marsup. felted bag. I'll take a picture of what I picked out for the colours once they are all together. In other news, my darling sister, Tracy, picked up "Last Minute Knitted Gifts" and SnBN for me at a huge discount due to her working at Smithbooks. Oooh, I love them both! LMNG was a little disappointing, though only due to the hype I've been hearing about it. SnBN was so much better than I was expecting. I want to make sooo many things in it. The helpful tips are fabulous too. I'm in love ^_^. She should also be snagging "Knit Wit" for me, so I have another happy surprise waiting for me. Aren't I lucky to have such a great sis? Heh.

Gratuitous cat shot :) Meet Maybelle.

I'm considering picking up Knit It. I keep hearing good things about it on the forums, in communities and on blogs. Have any of you checked it out? I hear from K that it's great. Hmmm. Maybe I'll get Tracy to pick it up as well. Has anyone seen the new Vogue? I haven't been able to find it anywhere. Ottawa knitters must be quicker than me, or it hasn't reached our stores yet.

Eeeee! I'm really excited about Secret Pal. I keep checking my email, hoping to hear more. I'm brainstorming ideas for gifts and letters. I can't wait ^_^
Well knitters, I think I'm done for now. I'll be posting all the entries I tried to post this past week. Sorry if they repeat anything stated above. It's been a while since I wrote them. Take care and happy knitting

Edit: Pat's grandmother had a stroke. My prayers are with her. If you have a second or two to spare, send her some good thoughts, strength, prayers...anything.

Edit: Pat's grandmother has passed, may her rest be peaceful.
